GO Wellington supports the Act Right Youth Event

A GO Wellington bus will be carrying an anti-violence message round the city for the next eight months.

Wellingtonians will have the chance to see the paint go on the bus this Sunday, 6th December, at Waitangi Park as part of a local Live Art Project.  The event will run from 8am – 9pm with live music and dance performances from 1pm – 4pm.

The Next Project is running the event, with support from the It’s not OK Campaign, Wellington City Council and GO Wellington. 

A workshop was held on Friday 20th November to explore young people’s perceptions of violence and abuse. 

Participants came up with key messages about what violence means to them and how this could be communicated through art.

Their messages will be made into art on the bus, by the Triple S Crew, at the all day public event this Sunday.  The Triple S Crew produce Aerosel art murals and are dedicated to providing opportunities for young people to observe Aerosol art in a legal context.

There will be live performances on the Sunday while the bus is painted.   Performers include: Host MC Peace, D ov a Kind, Kurst 1, TNG, Wellington B boy and B Girl Crew  - Voltron and other B boys and B girls, CPC DJ Crew and the  It’s Not Okay Campaign champions Tremain and Vic Tamati.

“This unique event is the best way for young people and the local Wellington youth arts community to have a positive voice on violence in our community.” Project Manager Sara Tamati said.

But the real champion of this event will be the GO Wellington bus art piece that will be rolling around Wellington City for the next eight months, carrying the message that Family Violence is not OK in a way that young people can relate to.
