GO Wellington gave the ride of your life
Wednesday, 10 December 2008 - 9:46am
GO Wellington’s Zane Fulljames handed over a cheque worth more than $7000 to the Wellington Free Ambulance on Monday, 8 December, representing all cash fares taken on its buses during the first Ride of Your Life event in November.
“GO Wellington was pleased to be able to donate all cash fares taken on the buses between 6pm and 10.30pm on 5 November to the Wellington Free Ambulance service,” says Zane Fulljames, General Manager Southern Region, NZ Bus.
The three hour Ride of Your Life event, at Frank Kitts Park, preceding Wellington’s annual Pelorus Trust Sky Show, aimed to raise funds and awareness for the Wellington Free Ambulance service, which has been serving the Wellington community since 1927.
“We were proud to support the Wellington Free Ambulance service by encouraging our customers to pay by cash on this occasion,” says Mr Fulljames.
“The Wellington Free Ambulance, much like GO Wellington, plays a vital role in the Wellington community. Our support of it was a natural decision for our business.”
“Also, it made sense for people to take public transport to this extremely popular event,” says Mr Fulljames. “The city saw around 100,000 spectators for the Pelorus Trust Sky Show, which took place the same evening of the Ride of Your Life event, we thought donating cash fares taken on our buses would be a great way for GO Wellington to show its commitment to the Wellington Free Ambulance service and in turn support the Wellington community as a whole.”
GO Wellington had a bus display at the Taranaki Street Wharf area. The display featured one of the new GO Wellington Scania buses and four vintage buses.
A photograph of Zane Fulljames delivering the GO Wellington cheque to John Britton, Chief Executive of the Wellington Free Ambulance, is available.
