GO Wellington welcomes SuperGold

Friday, 26 September

From 1 October, SuperGold card holders can take to the streets of Wellington and travel off-peak on the bus for free.

“We’re excited about welcoming Wellington’s senior citizens on board. Travelling by bus is a great way to get about the city and free bus travel will make the city more accessible for those over 65 years of age or on a Veteran’s pension,” says Zane Fulljames, GM Southern Region, NZ Bus.

From 1 October, SuperGold card holders will be able to travel between 9am and 3pm and after 6.30pm weekdays and all day weekends and public holidays for free.  For travel before 9am and between 3pm and 6.30pm on weekdays senior citizens will pay an adult or senior concessionary fare.

“Senior citizen off-peak concessionary fares will still be available for those aged 60 to 64 who hold a GO Wellington pensioner bus permit,” says Mr Fulljames.

“The introduction of free off-peak travel for SuperGold card holders will change the way senior citizens travel,” continues Mr Fulljames.  “The Senior Citizen All Day pass will be valid up to and including 30 September and will no longer be sold from 1 October.  What this means is that those customers aged between 60 and 64 years may need to reconsider the way they might structure their travel in order to  secure the most cost effective way to get from A to B.”

“If you are a GO Wellington customer aged between 60 and 64 years and wish to have unlimited travel in the  GO Wellington region after 9am, the cheapest way to travel is the Daytripper at $5,” says Mr Fulljames .

“If you are aged between 60 and 64 years and wish to have unlimited travel between the Wellington City and the Hutt Valley after 9am the cheapest way to travel will be by using the StarPASS at $12.  Or you may wish to snapper your bus fare to receive a 25% discount off the cash price of a single adult fare.”

“Those senior citizens who have already been travelling on our buses and have pensioner ten-trip tickets that they no longer require can get a refund by picking up a refund form from any GO Wellington bus ticket agent or downloading a form from the GO Wellington website,” Mr Fulljames continues.

The introduction of FREE off-peak travel for SuperGold card holders coincides with the United Nations’ International Day of Older Persons.

There’s a bus load of reasons to bus!
